This week for parents.

We started study of earth science this week with a review of landforms, followed by a review of plate tectonics and the forces that shape our planet.  Students should have learned most of this last year, but it will be tested this year, so we do intensive review.

We have started book clubs.  The book clubs are based on reading level as determined by testing and observation.  The goal is to have kids read in their “zone of proximal development” in other words at the “just right” level neither too hard, nor too easy.  As you child about the book they are reading.  We have several interesting selections.

In my math class, we finished up the fundamentals of scientific notation, PEMDAS, and a review of transformations (translations, rotations, and reflections) as well as a review of ordered number pairs and coordinate grids.

Finally, in social studies, we are finishing up westward expansion.  We have studied the Louisiana Purchase and Lewis and Clark and will be moving to the wxpantion to California and the gold rush.

Last but not least.  Our IB Planner on “How we express ourselves” is winding up with students presenting the speeches that they have been studying.  They will reenact the speech and explain its historical context and significance.
